Cox Town neighbours still in a daze


The TV crews have left and everything appears normal and calm at Bimya di apartments on Heerachand Road, Cox Town on Friday . Just the previous day, two alleged Indian Mujahideen operatives were picked up from here by police. However, appearances could be deceptive. And a word with the residents reveals they are still in shock over what unfolded ain their complex within a span of 20 minutes on Thursday afternoon.
“Around 2.15 pm, a convoy of police vehicles screeched to a halt before the apartment. Armed policemen jumped out, rushed towards the third floor and knocked on the doors of flat No. 413. They left with in no time. All we knew was that they were police. However, some time later, TV channels began flashing news of arrests of terror suspects from our apartment complex.Only then, did we learn what had happened,“ T Saravanan, who lives in the complex, told TOI.
Syed Ismail Afaq, 34, a homeopathy doctor; and Abdus Subur, 24, an MBA student, were arrested from their flat here.
“In the evening, media vehicles started coming here. We don't know whom to trust and make acquaintance with,“ another resident of the complex said.
“Most of the residents are living on rent and, as in any other place, there is very less interaction among neighbours,“ another neighbour said.
