Events lined up for Ahobila Mutt's annual utsavam



Sri Ahobila Mutt's, Lakshmi Nrisimha Swamy Kainkarya Sabha (SLNSK Sabha) is conducting its eighth annual utsavam to celebrate the 744th birth anniversary of Swami Vedanta Desikan.
It was he who propagated Visishtadvaitam, nurtured and strengthened by Swami Ramanujacharya. The 642nd birth anniversary of Sri Athivan Sathakopa Yateendra Mahadesikan, the founder of the illustrious Sri Ahobila Mutt lineage is also another event which is being celebrated.
This utsavam which began on November 3 concludes on November 13. The celebration is being conducted at mathura villa in Koparkhairane. On the first day of the utsavam one saw number of vedas and prabhanda being recited by devotees. The divyaprabhandam divine verses were sung by Shri Vaishnava Singh in praise of the Lord. This was then followed by panagaradhanam and goshti (prasad).
The next day saw recital of Sri Lakshmi Sahasram by Sri Vedanta Desikar Mahila Mandali. "The mahila (women's) mandili had come for the utsavam all the way from Chembur. Abhishekham of all the deities at the sabha was also done. The deities at the sabha are Lord Laxmi Hayagriva, Lord Prahlada Varadhan, Mahalaxmi, Andal, Sri Sudarshana, Sri Sathakopa Ramnujaacharya, Swami Desikan, Shri Athivan Sathakopa Yatindra Mahadesikan. On Sunday, November 6 we will be having the navakalaska abhishek at 9.30am too," secretary of the sabha R Sampathkumar, said.
The sabha is planning to hold religious lectures from November 10-13. A grand procession of Swami Desikan is also expected to take place in 'ashwa vahanam (horse savari) on November 12 starting from Koparkhairane and proceed towards sector 29, 14 and 10 of Vashi after which the procession will return to Vashi. The secretary of the Sabha said all the activities are done with the blessings of Lord Mahlolan. On November 13 there is a divya desa mangala sasa nam followed by hayagriva aradhanam, pushpayagam which is showering on a number of flowers. This will then be followed by the final puja also known as periya satru murai and then prasadam.
The sabha is also working towards having its own temple for Nav Narishma wherein the nine forms of Lord Narishma will be placed. Although the temple will take a while to get ready but the devotees are happy that work on it is progressing.
