City Bohras start tiffin service

The service is meant for those members of the community who are not getting proper food

Concerned over elderly persons and single members of Dawoodi Bohra community not getting proper food, the spiritual guru of the community Dr Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin and his descendant Mansoos Syedhi Aliwaquar Mufaddal Bhaisaheb Saifuddin had sought to commence with a tiffin service. Post Ramzan, Dawoodi Bohra centres situated across the world have begun implementing the thoughts of their leader.
The tiffin service, Al Muwaydiha Burhaniya (centre for eating), is intended to provide wholesome dinner. "Post Ramzan on August 30, we have began the tiffin service at our centre in Vashi. This is in lieu with the direction given by the leader and its benefit in assisting the elderly in getting wholesome meal as well as the single members who don't have time to cook. There were also incidences of starvation reported owing to drought or bad business etc," said the trustee of Dawoodi Bohra Anjuman-e-Fakhri, Vashi, Abid Nagaria. There is lot of flexibility incorporated even with the payments and monthly rates to be charged for the service. The monthly rates for the service are divided into three slabs thereby giving the members the freedom to choose the range that suits their budget.
"There are three different rates i.e. Rs 552, Rs 1,452 and Rs 2,152 per month, but this doesn't mean the quality or quantity of food differs. It is as per the financial capacity one can contribute which is voluntary in nature. But for those who cannot afford either can still avail the service without any hesitation. The criteria is that they should be registered members of the centre," Nagaria said.
Presently, 30 members of the community residing in different parts of the city are informed to be availing the benefits of the service. The food served comprises of one veg and one non-veg item, six chapattis, rice and sweet dish. "Even though the service is available for dinner, but the quantity ensures that it could be had even following day as well. We have employed a boy to distribute the tiffin and are gradually working out the means to spread our services further even to other communities," Nagaria added.
