The fifth edition of the Bansuri festival was held at Thane on November 19 and 20
For the fifth consecutive year, the Gurukul Pratishthan organised the 'Bansuri Utsav' on November 19 and 20 at Shiv Samarth School in Thane that had the presence and performance of eminent flautists from across the country.
This year, the festival had performance of around 100 flautists together who are the disciples of young flautist from Thane, Vivek Sonar and founder of Gurukul Pratisthan.
The group performance entitled as 'Harmony' saw an amalgamation of three music styles like Hindustani, Carnatic and Western wherein there was a fusion of Carnatic vocal, Hindustani classical music flute and Western instruments like saxophone, trumpet, guitar, keyboard among others.
After around 11 years, the people got to saw a flute jugalbandi between two young and foremost flautists from India, Rakesh Chaurasia and Rupak Kulkarni.
There was also three generations performing at this music festival dedicated to flute wherein Vivek Sonar his students and his Guru Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia enthralled the music lovers with their art of playing flute.
Besides, the people also got to hear to famous artistes Pt Hairprasad Chaurasia, Vikku Vinayakam on ghatam and tabla maestro Pt Anindo Chatterjee perform together for the first time.
The organisation has been spreading the knowledge of the most ancient instrument and organising such festival which is solely dedicated to the instrument and showing various aspects like solo flute, jugalbandi and group flute.
Sonar said, "Flute is not only played in India, but world wide and therefore we are also making efforts to bring the international talents here so as to increase the give and take between the flute lovers."
The organisation also gives scholarships to students of Indian classical music.
