BMC given plan for pet pool at Tata's new bungalow

BMC given plan for pet pool at Tata's new bungalow

Even as work on his sea-facing retirement home in Colaba is nearing completion, Ratan Tata, the chairman of Tata Sons, has submitted an additional plan to the municipal corporation.
The 75-year-old industrialist, who is likely to retire next year, wants to build a 300-sq-ft wide and 2-ft deep pool for his two pet dogs in the basement of his new bungalow, Cabine. The three-storey white structure with floor-to-ceiling glass windows is being built on 13,350 sq ft property on Shahid Bhagat Singh Road.
The bungalow will house all state-of-the-art facilities including a swimming pool, gym, library and a sun deck. But the pet pool was missing in the original blueprint.
"In the main architectural plan, four rooms were allotted for his pets, but only two rooms were built and the remaining space will be used for the pets' pool. The plan has been submitted to the municipal body's building department and is awaiting clearance," said a source.
While all permissions for the bungalow had been given in 2008 by the Mumbai Heritage Committee, the urban development department and the fire brigade, Tata has now sought permission from the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Authority because his bungalow area falls in the coastal regulation zone.
Sources added Tata had requested the municipal corporation not include this pets' pool into the floor space index, but the BMC it turned down. The spokesperson for Tata Sons did not respond to phone calls and an email.
