Passengers denied refund for missing train due to tech error

Passengers denied refund for missing train due to tech error
Mumbai:

Passengers of the Varanasi-LTT air-conditioned premium special train who failed to board it on October 26 due to an erroneous status update have been denied a refund on technical grounds. As many as 37 passengers were left stranded at Jabalpur junction after they failed to board the train as its running status could not be updated on the Centre for Railway Information System.
The passengers were then accommodated in the sleeper class of Godan Express.
Rakesh Sharma, a passenger said, “Some passengers, including me, have received a reply from the Indian Railway Catering and Travel corporation (IRCTC) stating that the refund was being refused for not surrendering the ticket within 2-3 hours of the actual departure of the train.
This is contrary to the assurance given to us by the railway authorities when we boarded the train.” Sharma had bought tickets for two berths in 2-tier AC for Rs 9,725. The booking for the train is done through the dynamic fare pricing. TOI had reported on October 28 about the problem faced by the passengers. IRCTC spokespersons said, “Our role is to forward the refund claim to the commercial manager of the zonal railways. We do not have the authority to reject the claim.“
A CR official said, “There may be some miscommunication. We are going to refund the passengers as a special case.“
