Bids now open for Metro-III project to link Colaba, Seepz
The 32.5-km unground
Colaba-BandraSeepz Metro-III corridor may soon gain traction as the
Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) has received crucial approval
for the bidding process from the Japan International Cooperation Agency . The Japanese agency is funding nearly 56% of the Rs 23,136-crore project, around Rs 13,235 crore.
“We would be in position to evaluate and award the work to the successful bidder by March 2015. We hope that the some work can begin on the ground in couple of months, but major work can only commence after the monsoon,“ said U P S Madan, MMRDA commissioner.
The bhoomi pujan for the underground project was held on August 26, days before the code of conduct for the state assembly elections was enforced.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had invited pre-qualification bids for the project in September 2013, in which nine firms were qualified. MMRCL received consent for the request for qualification stage of the project on November 4. “By November 13, we will invite request of proposal from those found eligible,“ added Madan.
The MMRCL will have to give at least three months to submit the proposal.
An MMRCL official said, “This Metro line will connect the financial centre of the city with residential areas with an expected ridership of 17 lakh by 2031.“ The state has decided to undertake the work on a cash contract and not public-private partnership like it was done for the Versova-AndheriGhatkopar Metro-I.
