Heard of angerobics? It’s anger management + aerobics

As the festive season nears, we have no doubt you will want to get into fitness mode. But it’s not just the treadmill running and gym spinning. Several other workouts — under the term ‘angerobics’ — can also help bring on that much-needed calm.

Here a few of them...

1 Resistance bands: One of the most popular of these, is the resistance band. It’s easy to carry around and lets you do a workout anywhere. As you do stretches with the band, you lose the tension and tightness, and along with it, any stumbling blocks in the mind, too.

2 Boxing: Boxing is another go-to angerobic regimen. Just throw all the right punches to release that negativity and bust annoyance and aggression. Try shadow-boxing or hitting the pads to start with.

3 Weight-lifting: Apart from helping one get a sculpted body, lifting weights — that promotes the release of the feel-good hormone called testosterone — improves the the body’s response capacity. As per a study, try strength training for just 20 minutes per day to prevent anxiety and give the brain a boost.

4 Medicine ball slams: Another way to lose the aggression is via a rubber medicine ball. Stand far, lift the ball and slam it against a wall. Grab it and repeat.

5 Dance workouts: Fusing fun with fitness, dance workouts can prep you in time for the year-end celebrations while sweating off the extra flab. Long day? Sign up for belly dancing, zumba, bachata or whatever your two feet fancy. Whether the moves are simple or complex, they will effectively act as a distraction, too.
