V Chinnalagu - India's 10 Ordinary People with Extraordinary Tales

V Chinnalagu
V Chinnalagu, is one of the many farmers who found it hard to deal with the hard times caused by the shortage of water to grow crop on his 2.5 acres of land, a legacy left by his father in the Kesampatti village in Maduar. He said, “I left the land barren for two decades because the irrigation tank was dry.”
In 1994, the Dhan Foundation approached the villagers. They offered to deepen and reclaim the irrigation tank. However the foundation asked the village to contribute a quarter of the cost for the job and it would take care of the rest. Now the tank has water stored even five months after the monsoon. Chinnalagu is now a circle treasurer of Dhan's Vayalagam Federation, and has repaid his debts and grew paddy on one acre which reaped him 40 bags, after 20 years.
