Rapli Bai - India's 10 Ordinary People with Extraordinary Tales

Rapli Bai
Rapli Bai is the sarpanch for the second time in Dehri village in Udaipur, who never had the opportunity to attend school but understands the equality women deserve. She even represented her village in a women's conference in Beijing as the chief. She was fascinated by the gender and society training sessions held next door to her home which was organized by one of the grassroots organizations under the Association for Democratic Reforms. She said, “The struggle began at home before it could reach the village level. People were not open to the idea of having more women take decisions. But we consistently went door to door to raise awareness. It took time, but you can see the results now,” as reported by TNN.
