Devesh Patel - India's 10 Ordinary People with Extraordinary Tales

Devesh Patel
Devesh Patel is a computer applications graduate, who pursued the course of nature rather than the course he studied. He chose to become a farmer like his father and returned to his village to work on the family land. Devesh’s father Ramesh suffered from chronic problems caused by the chemical fertilizers he used in the farm. “Only when his health worsened did my father realize that increasing yield wasn't everything. There's no point making money if one can't enjoy it. We switched to organic farming,” said Devesh, as reported by TNN.
They soon shifter to the liquid biofertilizer (LBF) newly developed at the Anand Agricultural University. "The health of the soil has improved. Chemical fertilizers cost up to Rs 28,000 per ha for crops such as sweet potato and ginger. LBF has cut my cost to below Rs 4,000/ha," said Devesh. The organic shift has spiked their earning to 30-40 lakh annually.
