Nikon J2 camera updates ‘One’ range
| ||
Nikon has launched a new version of its Nikon One J1 camera, called the J2.
The new model brings only slight changes to features, including an improved display, and the addition of new modes such as night landscape, backlighting and night portraits. Nikon has also announced new accessories for the popular range, such as a new waterproof case. The J1 was launched last October as part of the One series, and was always the cheaper model in a range which also included the V1. The J2 price is £499, down from the J1’s £549, including a 10-30mm lens kit. It will launch in early September. The update also begins to address the problem of just a small range of lenses being available for the mirrorless camera, with the launch of a slim 2.5x zoom lens, the 1 Nikkor 11-27.5mm f/3.5-5.6. The new devices now also turn on as soon as the lens is twisted and turn off when it is retracted into the body. The J2 retains the much-touted features of Motion Snapshot and Smart Photo Selector Motion Snapshot combines still photography, usually for the background, with slow-motion film for the subject. Smart Photo Selector aims to automatically choose the best picture available. Mirrorless cameras sit in between mobile phone cameras and expensive professional-style DSLRs, and despite initially slow sales photography manufacturers are aiming to introduce a whole new category onto the market. Simon Iddon, Product Manager for Nikon 1 at Nikon UK, said the firm was “delighted with the success of the Nikon 1. The new model combines the super high-speed performance, image quality and system size that the Nikon 1 series is known for”. Daily Telegraph |
