London olympics: 37 days to go; Mark Cavendish trains for Olympics

Age just a number for sprinter Ottey
Former Jamaican sprinter Merlene Ottey, 52, will race next week for an outside shot at making her eighth Olympics. Ottey will compete for her adopted country Slovenia at the European Athletics Championship in Helsinki, Slovenia’s athletics federation said Tuesday.
Cavendish trains for Olympics
Mark Cavendish will race for a second consecutive Tour de France green jersey but expects to be less dominant in the sprints next month after changing his training regimen and losing weight for the Olympics. Cavendish, a winner of 20 Tour de France stages, is convinced the Olympic road race will not end with a massive bunch sprint.
At 40, Evans still dreams Olympics
Janet Evans is close to finding out whether her comeback will end at the London Games. The 40-year-old winner of four Olympic gold medals already accomplished her main goal of qualifying for the US trials that begin next week in Omaha, Neb. Now she wants to earn a spot in the final of the 800-meter freestyle, an event she once dominated.
Greeks deny role in black market
Greek and Serbian Olympic officials have denied they were involved in selling black market tickets to the London Games. The IOC is investigating allegations in Britain’s The Sunday Times that officials and agents in several countries were caught selling tickets for up to 10 times their face value. The Greek Olympic Committee issued a statement denying any wrongdoing by its president, Spyros Capralos. The Greek committee called the story “untrue and misleading”.
Phelps may chase 10 medals
At his final Olympics, Michael Phelps could be going all out, shooting for 10 medals in seven kinds of races. Phelps will swim in seven events at the US Olympic trials, which will be held June 25-July 2 in Omaha, Neb. If Phelps finishes in the good within each race, he’ll have an unprecedented opportunity to bring home a double-digit medal inventory from London.
Torchbearer proposes to GF
An Olympic torchbearer used his moment in the spotlight to get down on one knee and propose to his girlfriend of two years. David State popped the question to Christine Langham as he carried the torch into the town of Loftus in Cleveland, North Yorkshire. The 25-year-old ran 300m with the Olympic flame before he stopped to give Langham a kiss in front of a cheering crowd.
