'Traditional music should be kept alive'

"We need more and more efforts to keep our traditional forms of music alive," said classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj on the occasion of "Idea Jalsa-Music for the Soul", the multi-media platform for all forms of Indian Music completing five years of its melodious and momentous journey.
"This live concert series in 39 cities over 22 months with more than 60 top artistes performing to audiences that exceeded 1.2 lakh music lovers, brings together legends, maestros, stars, and rising stars of Indian Music in a diverse showcase of Indian culture," he said. Announcing the milestone, managing director, Idea Cellular Himanshu Kapania, said: "Indian Music is an intrinsic part of our cultural heritage. In five years, we have endeavoured to take this form of music to the masses. With over 700 artistes and more than 50 different genres of Indian music, this show has now undisputedly established itself as the single largest platform for all genres of Indian music."
Since February Idea Jalsa has been running successfully on Zee TV where it crossed more than 100 million unique viewers on TV. Punit Goenka, MD & CEO, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEE) said, "ZEE always endeavours to promote indigenous talent through shows like Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, the country's longest running musical talent show that has given singing superstars like Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal, and Dance India Dance."
