Actor Aamir Khan and his director wife Kiran Rao are parents to a baby boy, the celebrity couple announced in a joint statement on Monday. Due to medical complications, the baby was born through In Vitro Fertilization and surrogacy.
"It gives us the greatest joy to share with you the good news of the birth of our baby boy. This baby is especially dear to us because he was born to us after a long wait and some difficulty," Khan and Rao said.
"Due to medical complications, we were advised to have a baby through IVF-surrogacy, and we feel very grateful to the Almighty that all has gone well. We are humbled by the greatness of God, the miracles of science, and the kindness and love of our families and friends in being there for us while respecting our privacy," they said.
Earlier, director Kunal Kohli, who directed the star in his 2006 film 'Fanaa,' tweeted: "Congrats Aamir and Kiran. Lots of love to you and your lil baby boy. So so happy for all 3 of you."
In 2009 Rao had suffered a miscarriage. Khan said at that time "I have bad news folks. Kiran and I lost our baby. Despite our best efforts we were unable to avert a miscarriage. The last two months have been a struggle for us and that is one of the reasons I was absent from the blog in more ways than one. I need time to heal. I will be away for a while." According to reports, she was three months pregnant at the time.
Rao has directed Khan in her film 'Dhobi Ghaat.' Khan has two children, a son named Junaid and a daughter, Ira from his first marriage with Reena Dutta, who had a small part in his film 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak'.
