The 21st edition of the IIID Showcase’12 is being held with a very progressive theme of ‘Celebrating Design’

IIID Mumbai Regional Chapter (IIID MRC) and AIM Expositions Pvt. Ltd. (AIMEX) have come together to bring the 21st edition of the show for high-end designers and architects - SHOWCASE - to the professionals. The show commences today at Bombay Convention & Exhibition Centre, Western Express Highway, Goregaon (East), Mumbai and will be held over three days from March 23-25, 2012.
The show is being held with a very progressive theme of ‘Celebrating Design’. With the idea of celebrating the 21st edition in the most memorable manner, the opening ceremony will be grand with 21 stalwarts from the industry inaugurating the show.

Mumbai Moments
A photo competition - Mumbai Moments - has been introduced for the first time, as a concurrent activity of the show. The idea was to capture the magnifying moments of Mumbai city life, through lens. The city has many facets and many moods, out of these, three attributes - Mansions, Movements and Mumbaikars - had been chosen as the theme for the competition. The idea was to capture various facets of Mumbai in the form of the city’s architecture, its urban pace and dwellers. The competition was open to students of architecture and interior design colleges. The winners of these awards shall be felicitated on March 25, 2012.
10 x 10 TALK SHOW is organised today. As the name suggests, 10 professionals from various spheres of design will be invited to make presentations and talk about their interesting works for 10 minutes. These professionals include -Anant Bhat, Director - JR A, Mumbai; Anil Mathur, COO - Interio Division, Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd., Mumbai; Ar. Arzan Khambhata - Arzan Khambhata Metal Sculptures, Mumbai; Ar. Kalhan Mattoo, Director, Planet 3 Studios Architecture Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai; Ar. Mujib Ahmed, Collaborative Architecture, Mumbai; Ar. Ninad Tipnis - JTCPL Designs, Mumbai; Ar. Pronit Nath, Urban Studio, Mumbai; Sudhir Sharma, Creative Director & CEO, Indi Design Pvt. Ltd., Pune; Ar. Salil Ranadive - CRA Architects, Mumbai and Ar. Zubin Zainuddin, Principal Partner, ZZ Architects, Mumbai.

Panel Discussion on Design: The Glocal Approach
On March 24, 2012,the second day of the show, IIID Showcase will witness a panel discussion from 16:00 - 18:00 hours on design with an interactive dialogue concentrating on Design: The Glocal Approach. The subject itself is very interesting and is apt in today’s time. In an era where “Thinking Global and Acting Local” is the mantra for success in every sphere of life, then how can design remain unaffected? In fact, with “foreign invasion”, it is gaining more and more relevance and acceptance too.
Eminent personalities like Jatin Das, Artist from New Delhi; Ar. Kamal Malik - Malik Architecture, Mumbai; Ar. Ravi Sarangan, Co-Founder - Edifice Consultants, Mumbai; Sandeep Mukherjee, Quetzel Designs India Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore and Subrata Bhowmick, Textile Designer from Ahmedabad will participate in
this design discussion with a
larger perspective.

DIY Symposium
March 25, 2012, the third day of Showcase will have a symposium from 11:00 - 13:00 hours, which will revolve around a very interesting concept - Do It Yourself (DIY). The audience will include interior designers, end-users and students. This symposium is divided into four capsules - Light, Colour, Space and Feng Shui, each of about 30 minutes. The professionals who will be making presentations include, Latika Khosla, Design Director, Freedom Tree Design Space on Colour; Ar. Nitin Killawala, Group Seven Architects & Planners Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai on Space; Ar. Kapil Surlakar, Director, Light@Work Design Consultants Pvt. Ltd., Goa on Light; and Dr. Nitin Parakh, Consultant - Feng Shui, Mumbai on Feng Shui.
Apart from the three symposiums, as a new initiative, the organizers have also invited some of the leading product designers from across the country to put-up a large pavilion - Design Dialogues - at the show for displaying their innovative and award winning products. More than 15 designers shall be displaying their products as a part of the pavilion. This pavilion will surely be an attention seeker for all the professionals as well as the visitors to
the show.
IIID Showcase’12 is going to add latest attributes and fine lineaments to the industry. The exhibition is being organised with all amenities and services
in a fine ambience at par with
international standards.
The show is expected to garner good participation and extensions from supporting organisations. The supporting organisations include School of Interior Design (SID); Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC); Indian Green Building Congress (IGBC), Indian Society of Heating Refrigerating Air conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE); Indian Society of Lighting Engineers (ISLE); Confederation of Construction Products and Services (CCPS); Fire & Security Association of India (FSAI); Indian Plumbing Association (IPA); Builders Association of India (BAI); Centre for Development Of Stones (CDOS); Electric Lamp and Component Manufacturers’ Association (ELCOMA); All India Granites and Stone Association (AIGSA); Brihan Mumbai Licensed Plumbers Association (BMLPA); and Pune Construction Engineering Research Foundation (PCERF).
With a vintage of 20 editions, the show will provide a large canvas for creating a grand design show. The very presence of designers from across the country will add to excitement amongst the industry professionals. It’s time to make a design difference, time to unravel the 21st edition of SHOWCASE.
