Peplums for a slim look this party season

Here's why the flirty, feminine number is a fave with the A-list
Forget the fitting bodycon dress or flowy gown. This season, F try something that takes you to flirty chic in a pinch. The peplum -the starchy overskirt that flares out at the waist is a fashionista fave. Kate Middleton is bringing the garment back -she's spotted at almost all official appearances in one, actress Kerry Washington rocked the 2015 Oscars red carpet wearing a cream pep lum and closer home, Sonam chose a deep blue peplum to the Cannes Film Festival this year. It's as versatile as it gets the garment can be adapted to a top, shirt, dress or even a jacket. Here's how to wear the look...

Got tummy flab? The stylish frill is not just apt for a soiree, it has a double advantage. If worn right, it adds some volume to the body for skinny women and for heavier women, it can create the impression of an hourglass shape.

Choose a fab ric to fit the occasion. A cotton peplum or knit works for the day. For an evening wear, try lace or satin.
COLOUR TRICK: Wear a dark tone peplum on the top to hide broad shoulders. But a light shade peplum top with dark trousers can lend a slimming effect to the lower body.
LENGTH: The rule is, aything worn below the pouf must be stream lined: If it's a skirt, it must end at the knee, if it's a trouser, opt for a slim fit pant or skinny jeans.
STREAMLINED: Don't let the peplum be too large or it might end up giving you a comical, unflattering look.
VOLUME: If you are looking to add volume to the hips, get a more ruffled peplum. To nar row down heavier hips, opt for one with a slightno volume.
HEELS: The peplum is designed to make the body frame look curvy and heavy so wear slim heels with it rather than broad wedges.
BELT: Pair a peplum with the right belt -a skinny belt plays down the waistline and a wider belt shows off a slimmer waist.
