Beautiful ladies parlour, stylish ladies tailor, chillz men's saloon etc are all a passe now, since Navi Mumbai is slowly getting a hang of the unisex trend. From salons to spas, and from changing rooms to using unisex deodorants, it's all about getting comfortable with the trend. In fact, it's been ages that the trend of having ladies and gents changing rooms have disappeared; soon the city will have a number of places where unisex will be seen as a normal funda and nothing eye-brow raising.
The other side of Mumbai has already adapted to this trend, since the town has unisex spas and salons in abundance. However, the satellite city was not yet that open to that trend since girls or boys never wanted to use unisex fragrances because they thought they represented different identities. "I never used a unisex deo until a few years back since my mom always said that girls should smell unique and subtle, not frivolous like guys. However, today, I use my husband's perfumes and deodorants with utmost comfort and confidence without feeling any hitch about it. I think, we are slowly taking the unisex trend seriously and that too in a graceful manner," said Simritta Agarwal, a resident of Seawoods.
"People have absolutely no issues to come and take services in a unisex salon that we are. In fact, not only men or women taking different services sharing the same space, but there have been times when a stylist of the opposite sex works on an opposite sex customer. The comfort level is very good as of now, and no one has ever complained of any discomfort due the presence of an opposite sex customer or stylist. Yes, Navi Mumbai has indeed taken unisex as a trend very gracefully," mentioned Anu Singh, Marketing Manager, Juice Hair Salon, Inorbit Mall, Vashi. Not just Juice, but there's Enrich Hair and Skin Solutions, Peacock, Kapil's Salon, VLCC and many more names that are successfully running unisex salons in Navi Mumbai.
In fact, with the spa culture making it big in the satellite city, the unisex trend is taken all the more seriously by people. These spas in the city have couple rooms where a couple can take massages as well as enjoy each other's company. Not just these, the nail, hair and foot massage section is common for both gents and ladies, and both the sexes comfortably take up these services in each other's presence. Aditi Kwatra, a resident of Vashi who has recently been to a unisex spa says that unisex is not new when it comes to spas. "Moreover, people who are aware of the spa culture know that the comfort level is very high out there. In every spa, there is the same comfort level for both the customers. It is a good trend that is fast catching up with people and Navi Mumbai will soon have a lot of places that will share unisex zones," Aditi said.
