Kangana Ranaut: The model's model

Her role in the film Fashion not only won her audience votes but also brought out the fashionista in her. Actor Kangana Ranaut's style is based on her mood swings but certainly in sync with the occasions. From casual chic at movie screenings to well-draped gowns at red carpet events, even showing off her ethnic style in well-constructed patiala suits. But the actor feels it's just not just the right style sense but the attitude that defines her style.

"Style is about wearing what you feel comfortable and confident in and look good in. What I wear depends on my mood and, of course, the sensibilities of the occasion," she says.
So what's the first ever fashionable item, she ever donned? "I've always had a sense of style! (Laughs) As a kid growing up in Himachal, I once wore these denim shorts, a tee with sunglasses to a wedding and had everyone shocked! It was definitely different, but I think that's really the way to be — you have to be willing to experiment to find what works for you."
There is one thing that's absolutely essential to a wardrobe, she says. "It's a fashion basic: a white linen dress. Everyone must have one!"
The biggest fashion faux pas is when you're not be willing to experiment, she says. "Anything can look great — a salwar kameez, hippie pants, anything. You just need to be willing to enjoy it." One trend she can't stand is "men in cycling shorts". "It's beyond my understanding. It's so absurd."
Being a young fashionista, she has many followers who admire her impeccable fashion sense. But there are people whiose sense of style she admires. She loves the way Victoria Beckham and Rihanna carry themselves. "What I like most about their sense of style is their ability to strike a balance between classy and fun dressing," she says. "However I really do have my own innate sense of style." So what does she do for fashion tips? "As an actor, you interact with a lot of people in the fashion industry, and then there are fashion magazines. These inputs help, but eventually, I only wear what I think is cool." As told.

Bizarre fashion at music awards
For fashion that's propah, you watch the Oscars. And for the zaniest of outfits, MTV Music Video Awards is the show to tune in to. The recently concluded MTV MVA had Lady Gaga (right) walk in dressed as a man, revealing her her alter ego 'Jo Calderone'. So with Lady Gaga going conservative (if you consider the outlandish raw meat dress she wore last year), Katy Perry decided to take matters into hand and turn the event's loony-quotient up by a notch. Perry switched outfits thrice. At one point, she had a squarish-looking object balanced precariously on her head. Nicki Minaj emerged quite the competitor in the 'going overboard' category, appearing in what can only be described as a very colourful oxygen mask. But the star of the evening was Beyonce, who unbuttoned her jacket and rubbed her belly to show off her baby bump.
