Navratri and Durga Puja season is all about fun, festivities and some great moments with our loved ones. If you want to sparkle and shine this Navratri, follow these simple and cool tips...
ROCK YOUR BACKLESS CHOLI WITH BODY ART
What’s Navratri without a sexy backless choli? If you are wearing one, make sure that you have some body art done. Use non-toxic, washable colours and paint a traditional design. Intricate drawing, if done well, can give you that tattoo you wanted and dreamed of, without any of the pain and after-care! Pick colours that complement the outfit you are wearing. Sumedha Shah, a FYJC student says, “I have planned an elaborate yet intricate body art just for Navratri. My friend and I are getting it done especially for this season.”
NAIL IT, LITERALLY!
All set to deck up, but not sure about how to make your nails stand out? Even if you have short nails, you must paint cool designs and indulge in some cute nail art. Glossy, matte, pearl-finish, gelfinish nail paints, when worn well, can enhance your entire look. College student Sudha Manchandani says, “Nail art can be as creative as you want. This year, I will stick tiny faux diamonds and coloured stones on my nails. Also two tiny jhumkas on the nail can nail the look, literally!”
BOLD TRADITIONAL ENSEMBLES AND EMBROIDERED JACKETS ARE IN
During Navratri, not just women of all ages, but men too dress up to the hilt — it is all about sparkle and shine. Homemaker Vandana Kabra says, “Mirror work and embroidery is the flavour of this season. Lehengas and cholis have appliques in bold colours and that is the traditional look.” Entrepreneur Susmita Das, who stays in the suburbs, says, “Neons are in and so one can go funky with it. I’ll be wearing embroidered jackets to amp up my look.”
SPORT HANDCRAFTED SEMI-PRECIOUS JEWELLERY AND COOL EMBELLISHED ACCESSORIES
Oxidised silver jewellery has always been popular during Navratri, and this year is no different. Women are also opting for beautifully crafted jutis that match the clothes. Just like one looks out for special clothes, jewellery, potli bags, embroidered bags, shoes and body art, one should also be particular about the dandiyas one is carrying. You could indulge in some DIY and decorate different kinds of dandiyas — ones with mirror work, some wrapped in lace and colourful ones that could match your outfit. Of course, you could go with the steel, silver and gold coloured ones, too.
