Style it up!

Saris can never go out of fashion, but why not add a twist to this traditional wear.

The front palluDraping a sari with a front pallu is simple, yet makes a lot of difference in your appearance. Especially when you have a heavy designer choli or blouse, the front pallu looks traditional as well as trendy. Wear the sari the usual way with seven-eight pleats and instead of taking the pallu over your shoulder from the front, take it from the back. This is the usual Gujarati or North-Indian style, but the main difference is to leave the pallu pleated from your shoulders like a dupatta.Revisiting BollywoodA very recent trend, women are experimenting with what yesteryear actresses used to wear— the double or triple draped sari! All you have to do if drape the sari the usual way but instead of once, the sari is draped twice. This gives a narrowed look at the bottom, with a little pallu to go at the back.Rise from the eastAnother interesting way of draping a sari is how the Bengalis wear it but with a twist. Instead of giving seven to eight pleats, give only four to five when you drape the sari and leave a long pallu at the back. The pallu from the back can be pleated and taken on the right shoulder.Use the palluThe beauty of many traditional saris is the intricately designed pallu borders. Try to use the pallu in different ways around the waist by tucking in one layer on the left side and then taking the rest of the pallu on the right shoulder and letting it flow like a dupatta. The choli effectYou can make a traditional sari with a zari border look trendy and modern by playing with the designs of the choli or blouse. Halter necks, single straps, tank-top designs, full-sleeve blouses, boat necks, mandarin collars or maybe even a backless choli can enhance the beauty of the sari. But keep in mind that if the blouse is heavily designed, then the sari should have minimal work. |
