As summer sets in, heavy make-up shades make way for lighter ones

Lemon drops and rosewater work best for skin and help you get that glow, feel experts

It's May and summer is at its peak. But even the sweltering heat can not stop girls from wanting to look at their prettiest. Looking pretty involves good makeup and just like heavy and dark clothes are replaced with lighter and breezier ones in the summer, make up styles also have to follow the suit.
Use of lighter shades to match light coloured clothes seems to be the trend in the summer. A cleaner and softer look as opposed to a heavy one is making waves. "I prefer soft pink, lilac and peach tones on my skin as it makes it appear lighter in tone and gives it a fruity look. For my lips, I make use of light brown and watermelon pink shades for a bee stung effect," says Neha Vazirani, a student of Yerla Medical College, Kharghar.
Subiksha Devaraj, resident of Seawoods adds, "Usually the one to do heavy black eye make up with loads of mascara and eyeliner, I turn to golden and bronze eye shadow in the summer as it gives my eyes a very shimmery appearance."
The bronzer seems to be quite popular in the heat as more and more women are applying it instead of the usual face foundation. It makes the face look warmer and highlights cheekbones, nose and the chin besides making the face look slimmer. It is the essential ingredients of the make up style which is very much in vogue. This style makes it appear natural and devoid of any artificial enhancement, yet make one look classy.
Sona Kuradiya, make up and skin artist says, "The primer is a God sent in the scorching summer. It can be applied after moisturizing the face and before applying a layer of makeup. This ensures that the make up does not run due to the heat and holds it in place. Also, this is so light that one does not feel as if an extra layer has been applied on the skin." She also stresses on the importance of keeping the face clean and advises girls to at least make use of the sunscreen before applying make up in case of unavailability of the primer. Readymade cosmetics with built-in sunscreen are available in the market, as are special summer compacts.
Rubbing an ice pack on the face before commencing make up of any sort does the trick for a glowing and healthy face in the blistering climate. Age old and traditional household formulas like face packs to get rid of pimples which spring up in the mango season are extremely popular among the younger generation who prefer them to modern salon and parlor treatments.
Kuradiya who has been making such packs for years reveals her secret ingredients for the same. "A concoction of multani mitti, besan, haldi, tomato puree, lemon drops and rosewater works best for a skin type which is neither too oily nor too dry. Lemon drops bleach the skin while the tomato acts as a skin tightener and prevents the facial skin from sagging. People with oily skin should however avoid badam oil and milk in their face packs and should use rose water in abundant quantities."
